The elusive Belgian designer Martin Margiela is the unofficial ‘seventh member’ of the ‘Antwerp Six’ collective, a group of designers famed for their visionary forward thinking. Their uncompromising approach to their work is reminiscent of Comme Des Garcons founder Rei Kawakubo. Deconstructed pieces play a central role in his work, and archaic found objects are often transformed into fascinating couture in his hands. The dark brown, tortoiseshell plastic frames are cut from sheets of cellulose acetate, hand assembled and hand polished. The brown lenses are made of the highest quality plastics available and treated to absorb ultra violet light, UVA and UVB.
